On May 26th, 2018, at 10:00 AM PST, Dr. Wellam Yu Ko will speak at the Surrey Prostate Cancer Group. Dr. Yu Ko is a nurse and has just finished his PhD program from the UBC School of Nursing. His areas of research interest include: Men’s health and health practices, Men’s health promotion, Men’s experiences of prostate cancer and work, and issues around Men’s work and career plans after cancer treatment.

Topic: Work-related issues during prostate cancer treatment
Work is an important activity for men. Aside from generating financial resources, work is known to shape men’s identities and location in society. However, the diagnosis of prostate cancer and subsequent radical prostatectomy can impact men’s ability to work, negatively affecting their career and retirement plans. This presentation aims to highlight the importance of considering and including work-related issues during prostate cancer treatment decision making, recovery from radical prostatectomy and return to work.
